A Gladstone man who “came home” from Brisbane to celebrate his birthday said it was “cruel karma” that he tested positive for COVID

Queensland Health has confirmed the man is infected with the highly contagious British strain of the virus

The man whose identity The Observer chose to protect said when he spoke on Sunday, Jan. On March 8th, when he arrived at his home in Brisbane, he was rolled away by ambulance officers

“I had booked a vacation to celebrate my birthday in Agnes / 1770 and visited my home (Gladstone) before spending time with friends and family,” the man wrote on social media

“I arrived on Thursday, went out to eat, drink and shop on Friday in the places listed by QLD Health, nowhere else” ”

“On Saturday morning, I had my family, grandparents and partner family, and their nana over my parents’ place for breakfast,” the man wrote

“I cooked and cleaned, hugged and kissed everyone that morning, and at 11:30 am I got a call from my boss telling me that my work colleague I was with on Wednesday tested positive

“I was shocked and my heart sank immediately I told everyone involved what was going on and went to Gladstone Hospital alone and immediately masked myself “”

At the hospital, the man said he needed to stress to staff the importance of getting a COVID test before it was done

“I explained my story in the emergency room and they told me to return on Monday as the fever clinic closed at 11:30 am and was closed on Sunday,” the man posted

“1 to 2 hours later, I got one in the parking lot and was sent back to mom and dad to isolate the pending results

“I was contacted by QLD Health on Sunday morning and received quarantine orders I was sent home to Brisbane

“I went there by myself without stopping, and an hour away from home I received another phone call confirming that I was positive and my heart had sunk deeper

“We immediately started contact tracing and I shared the results with everyone I knew I was in contact with” ”

“I was picked up that night by an ambo with men in full PPE I was placed in a stretcher while my neighbors watched them toss me away, “he said

“I’ve been talking about this pandemic for the last year, it’s cruel karma
