Nicola Sturgeon has apologized after she was photographed without a mask chatting with three women in an Edinburgh bar on Friday

Scotland’s first woman minister said she was “kicking herself” after breaking coronavirus rules she was enforcing. In the picture from The Scottish Sun, she is several feet away from the women walking together on one Sit at the table

Sturgeon had been to the Stable Bar and Restaurant at the nearby Mortonhall Crematorium after the funeral of a senior Scottish Government official earlier in the day, but she took it off inside the venue

The SNP leader said of the incident: “When I was attending a funeral last Friday, I briefly took off my mask

“I talk about the meaning of masks every day so I won’t offer any excuses I was wrong, I kick myself and I’m sorry”

Face masks have been around since the 13th September mandatory for all customers in the hospitality industry such as bars, pubs or restaurants The mask can only be removed when the person is sitting at their own table

Anyone breaking the rules can be forced to pay £ 60, with repeat offenders risking a £ 960 fine

Announcing the restrictions at the time, Sturgeon said, “Customers in these environments must now wear face covers when they are not eating or drinking

‘For example, when you go inside and go to your table or when you get up to move to go to the bathroom’

A Scottish Conservative spokesman said Sturgeon should know better and undermined “essential public health news” by forgetting her own rules

They added, “It is a mistake that an ordinary member of the public would not get away with”There cannot be one rule for Nicola Sturgeon and another for everyone else’
