Snowfall warning issued for Fraser Valley; For Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Monday marks the official start of the winter season and brings heavy rain and snow with it – depending on where you are

In Metro Vancouver, some parts could see some wet flakes, but the main weather event to watch out for is rain

A special weather statement with up to 30 millimeters of rain in some parts was published

At higher elevations, snow could build up on the ground on Monday evening and the rain is expected to subside by early evening

In the meantime, a snowfall warning applies to the Fraser Valley with total accumulations of up to 15 centimeters

For Monday afternoon, heavy rain with wet snow is forecasted or turned into wet snow Two to four centimeters are expected in most areas

Further east, winter storm and snowfall warnings are placed for the interior, including sections of several highways

Heavy snow is expected to set in on Monday morning, which will intensify as the day progresses and create potentially dangerous driving conditions

The Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt and Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton are covered by the warnings The accumulations are between 25 and 35 cm

People are encouraged to avoid all non-essential travel until conditions improve. If you need to be on the move, make sure you are driving in certain conditions and have the appropriate tires

British Columbians are also reminded that the province is advising against non-essential travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic
