Steve Nicol explains how he sees Liverpool’s chances versus Jamie Vardy and Leicester this weekend (1:16)

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said Jurgen Klopp is not getting the recognition he deserves for transforming Liverpool

Carragher, Liverpool’s second-longest player, added that while they may not be the most exciting side at the club, they are more ruthless than previous teams

“I think it’s better than he was given credit for I don’t think the other top clubs – {Manchester] City, Jose [Mourinho] at [Manchester] United, [Mauricio] Pochettino at Tottenham, [Arsene ] Wenger at Arsenal – worried when he walked in Liverpool they were only seen as a team that could get into the top four

“People are talking about Liverpool’s famous transfer committee model and don’t get me wrong, they did a great job But the most important thing to me is not just buying players, but what you do when you get them

“How often does Klopp buy a player but not put him directly on the team and instead mold him his own way It is no coincidence that a high percentage of Liverpool’s transfers work and I think a lot of them go to Klopp owe is “

Klopp led Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years, but Carragher said this doesn’t necessarily make them the most exciting team the club has ever had

“If you go back to when Philippe Coutinho was on the team and the first season of Mohamed Salah [2017-18] it was possibly the most exciting team to see, but that team also failed to win the league”, He added, “In Klopp’s early years, football was incredible

“Football was exhilarating now it’s more machine-like and reckless The Liverpool teams of the ’70s and early’ 80s were also likely more machine-like; relentless and full-size

“I actually think this current team is closer to these teams than [Kenny Dalglish’s] Liverpool in the late 1980s”
