Allegations against a federal cabinet minister were passed on to the police after two senators received an anonymous letter on Friday alleging a decade-old rape

Senator for Labor Penny Wong and Green Senator Sarah Hanson-Young sent the claims to police shortly after receiving the letter, which was attached to a statement from a woman who said she had been raped

ABC journalist Louise Milligan reported on the letter shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, saying that the author of the letter had not identified himself but was friends of the applicant who had gone to the police about the alleged rape

Ms. Milligan said the letter asked the Prime Minister to open an independent investigation in line with the High Court-commissioned investigation into Dyson Heydon
