Liverpool are unlikely to make an offer to bring Schalke defender Ozan Kabak to Anfield in January, according to reports.

Kabak, who came through the ranks with Galatasaray, made 15 league appearances for Stuttgart before Schalke activated his €15m release clause to sign the youngster ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 20-year-old immediately inserted himself into Schalke’s first team, where he has made 35 league appearances for the German side since joining in June 2019.

Liverpool began monitoring the Turkish international following injuries to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez earlier in the season.

Their situation was improved by the return of versatile midfielder Fabinho, who can also play in defence. But they’re still in the hunt for a new centre back to improve Jurgen Klopp’s options.

However, Kabak is unlikely to be that man with The Athletic claiming that Liverpool ‘opted not to pursue a deal for the Turkish defender’.

The report adds that ‘contact was made in November with intermediaries representing’ Kabak but ‘after those initial discussions, it went no further’.

Sources told The Athletic that they ‘expect him to go elsewhere’ with AC Milan interested in the defender, who is valued at €25m by Schalke.

Crystal Palace, Man United and Leicester City are all keen to sign the £25m-rated Bundesliga defender…

The gossip has Liverpool and Manchester United battling for centre-halves…

Kabak has been linked with a host of top European clubs, including Liverpool and Italian rivals Juventus and AC Milan.

Liverpool have one Premier League target in mind, but see ‘better value for money options abroad’.

Liverpool have put a recent transfer rumour down to an ‘exuberant’ agent and ‘desperate’ club.

Kyle Walker-Peters was the best right-back in Southampton v Liverpool. He has been a revelation.

We’ve done Chelsea, Spurs and United, time for some bona fide Premier League title challengers.

Son Heung-Min has scored his 12 goals from just 5.39 xG. Which is pure sorcery. He’s not on this list.

Liverpool are adamant that they will not be panicked into a January transfer. But is that the right stance?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has erectile managerial dysfunction. Pep Guardiola’s rebuild looks pretty bloody healthy.
