Liverpool are unlikely to make an offer to bring Schalke defender Ozan Kabak to Anfield in January, according to reports.

Kabak, who came through the ranks with Galatasaray, made 15 league appearances for Stuttgart before Schalke activated his €15m release clause to sign the youngster ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 20-year-old immediately inserted himself into Schalke’s first team, where he has made 35 league appearances for the German side since joining in June 2019.

Liverpool began monitoring the Turkish international following injuries to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez earlier in the season.

Their situation was improved by the return of versatile midfielder Fabinho, who can also play in defence. But they’re still in the hunt for a new centre back to improve Jurgen Klopp’s options.

However, Kabak is unlikely to be that man with The Athletic claiming that Liverpool ‘opted not to pursue a deal for the Turkish defender’.

The report adds that ‘contact was made in November with intermediaries representing’ Kabak but ‘after those initial discussions, it went no further’.

Sources told The Athletic that they ‘expect him to go elsewhere’ with AC Milan interested in the defender, who is valued at €25m by Schalke.
