A PRIMARY school in Penketh was closed on Monday after pupils tested positive for coronavirus.

Two year five pupils at Penketh South Community Primary School and another in year one were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 over the weekend.

Parents were first informed on Saturday, with the decision to close the Finlay Avenue school then being made on Sunday afternoon.

The school reopened to most year groups today, Tuesday, after consultations with Public Health England.

But youngsters in years one and five will be required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days as a result of the confirmed cases.

A statement posted on the school’s website said: “After consultation with Public Health England, our school has now reopened to all children in nursery, reception, year two, year three, year four and year six.

“Please can we ask all parents to continue to inform us immediately if your child shows symptoms or tests positive.

The school also sent its ‘best wishes’ to the youngsters affected for a ‘speedy recovery’.
