Home All The News Meulensteen predicts quiet transfer window for Ole and Man Utd

Former Man Utd coach Rene Meulensteen believes the club will have a quiet January transfer window.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of new players, including Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and youngster Moises Caicedo.

Man Utd recently completed their first signing of the window, with Amad Diallo joining for an initial £19 million fee.

But Meulensteen expects that to be one of the only incoming transfers that Ed Woodward completes. Speaking recently, the Dutchman said: “I don’t think they’re really going to do anything in the January transfer market, I think that’s been made clear by Ed Woodward and Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer].

“I think they’ve got clear ideas on how to take it forward, it’s a long-term process and I think he’s happy with the squad he’s got.

So far, it looks like a majority of United’s transfer dealings this month could be players leaving.

Marcos Rojo is close to returning to his native Argentina with Boca Juniors. Solskjaer revealed today that the defender is free to leave Old Trafford when he desires.

Compatriot Sergio Romero will also be allowed to leave. The keeper has been linked with a host of clubs, most notably Everton to rival Jordan Pickford.

A trio of players could join Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United on loan, too. Brandon Williams, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard have all been linked with a switch to St James’ Park.

Bruce is hoping to continue Williams’ exciting development in defence. He is also also set to offer Lingard and Jones regular first team opportunities.

In terms of incoming transfers, this month might not be as busy for Man Utd as many were expecting.

Solskjaer says the “positive impact for everyone in lockdown” means they should keep playing if they can.

Solskjaer is willing to allow the pair to leave in January in order to collect what will likely be minimal fees.

Solskjaer hails new Man Utd signing Diallo as “one of the most exciting young prospects in the game”.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has erectile managerial dysfunction. Pep Guardiola’s rebuild looks healthy.

Jurgen Klopp has had a ‘meltdown’. It’s little wonder when both Man United and Man City are winning the league.

Some teams will be more pleased than usual to see the back of the FA Cup; others should give it a right go.

The true victim of the global pandemic finally gets a spotlight: The magic of the FA Cup. But the Mail’s take is remarkable.

Can football fans identify with the mid-level superheroes playing the game in 2021? We want fatties.

An actual six-pointer? Thumb wars? Or maybe we should just sack it all off entirely.
