Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants his team to improve defensively after they conceded two in the victory over Fulham.

Talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the away side ahead within the first minute. The ball hit him and went in the net from just two yards out.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure made it three in the 35th-minute as he headed home from inside the box.

Digne was again involved in this one, putting a perfect cross in for Doucoure to rise to.

The second half saw Fulham miss yet another penalty this campaign as Ivan Cavaleiro slipped and hit the ball over the bar.

But the Cottagers couldn’t pick up a point, leaving them towards the bottom of the table.

Speaking after the match, Ancelotti said: “The most important part of the game was to be back to winning.

“We lost energy in the second half, the players were tired, I changed to put more fresh legs on the pitch but we lost a bit of quality and we had to defend as a result but in the end it went well.

“Alex Iwobi played well, like the others played really well. I am pleased for him. In that wing-back position eh can show his quality.

“We have to improve defensively for sure. We were not so compact and not so close to the line. We have time this week to work on this.”

Fulham will rue another missed penalty in a thoroughly entertaining game against Everton, who have missed their talisman…

“Unfortunately sometimes he makes mistakes, as all of the players do…”

“He is a striker and the problem we had was, we didn’t defend properly in the past three games.”

Ancelotti also gave his backing to James, whose form has dipped slightly after a brilliant start in the Premier League.

Khedira is yet to feature for Juventus this season and admits it’s his “dream” to play in the Premier League.

Carlo Ancelotti has responded after poor defending saw Everton lose their third league game in a row.

Didier Drogba was a phenomenal big man up top. But only a fool wouldn’t look beyond his football skill.

Bruno Fernandes remains the single redeeming feature of this Man Utd squad. Imagine how dour they might be without him…

Jose was supposedly finished after Man Utd refused to follow his lead but these malleable Spurs could make him special once more…

Chelsea are now title contenders and so they should be after their summer of spending…

Man City are the big climbers from last season while United go the other way. What else is there?
